It feels like ages ago that the first season of Bloodline, another Netflix Original Series, became available to stream. This Friday, May 27th, hunker down once again as the Rayburn family saga continues in their idyllic hometown in the Florida Keys.
Haven’t seen it? Here’s a quick rehash – the Rayburns are a prominent local fixture in a small, seaside town in Florida, where they run a resort for tourists. But don’t be fooled by the picture-perfect appearances of this idyllic paradise – the family carries with it a dark and complicated past. The best part? The plot is rich with psychological depth and dysfunction, and each of the characters carries forth the duplicitous family legacy.
Season 2 picks up where we left off in Season 1: Danny is now dead, but his siblings’ aspirations continue. John (Kyle Chandler) continues his pursuit of the role of sheriff, Meg (Linda Cardellini) has stepped into her role at a big-time New York law firm, and Kevin (Norbert Leo) has resolved his financial woes and is heading his own boatyard.
Of course there’s a twist. There’s a newcomer on the show – Danny’s secret son, Nolan (Owen Teague), and his mother, Evangeline (Andrea Riseborough). Plus, rumor has it we haven’t seen the last of Danny, who has been haunting the dreams of his siblings.
Be sure to tune in to see if the Rayburns’ mother, Sally (Sissy Spacek), the naïve and detached matriarch to the dysfunctional brood of siblings (i.e. the embodiment of denial), begins to clue-in to the extent of her children’s deceit. And lastly, if you happen to be a John Leguizamo fan, rejoice! He’ll be appearing in Season 2 as yet another character with a dark and complicated past, Ozzy Delvecchio.
While it’s been a while since Season 1 made its debut, it’s worth remembering that the stellar cast of this dark drama is more than able to carry the weight of its own deceptions. Look forward to quality acting and be reminded of all the darkness that can lurk beneath the surface of even the most serene appearances.
