Feel like you’ve been through the ringer a bit lately? It’s an understatement to say that life throws struggles at us on the regular, but for those in the entertainment industry, rejection is an every day process. In fact, every person who creates art in any form allows himself to be subjected to constant rejection and hits to their ego. Princess Shaw is no exception.
A self-made singer in New Orleans, Princess Shaw will do everything it takes to bring her music to light and become known for her incredible voice. Magnolia Pictures captures this drive in Presenting Princess Shaw, a full-length documentary about the singer and her persistence in pursuing her version of The American Dream.

Enter Israeli musician (and visionary) Kutiman, an incredible artist who not only makes his own original music, but spends time sifting through videos online and mixing them into something extraordinary. He takes things that may seem commonplace–a singer/songwriter video or a playlist–and re-invents it. That’s what he happened to do with Princess Shaw material he found online, and that’s where the magic really began.
Kutiman’s reinvention–a mashup video featuring many other talented musicians–went viral. And Princess Shaw reached new heights. They embarked on an incredible musical journey, which is detailed even further in Presenting Princess Shaw. We are floored by Kutiman’s generosity and drive to make other peoples’ dreams come true alongside his own success story. The film is gorgeous, the sentiment is amazing, and it truly gives us hope in a world that’s often darkened by current events. To inspire your day, check out the original mashup here. His project, Thru You Too, can be found here.
Presenting Princess Shaw is available in select locations.

Meredith has spent her life pin balling across America. She is often referred to as an entrepreneur, photographer, writer, and multi-media maven. She would label herself “butcher,” “baker,” and “candlestick maker.” (Hint: One of these is not true.) She is currently trying to find the perfect design for the DIY ukulele her twin gave her for Christmas. You can find her random musings on Twitter and Instagram.
