Madyson Grace is one of the greatest talents we’ve come across recently. She’s a phenomenal photographer–her personality shines through in every photo she releases into the universe–she’s kind, and she’s incredibly inspiring. She’s on her way to a lustrous career and life journey. And she is eighteen years old.
MOSHERY: Please, introduce yourself to our MOSHERY audience.
Madyson: If I was landed the opportunity to introduce myself to you beauties in any way, I’d probably choose to elaborately parachute onto the island of Tahiti on a perfect June morning. Perhaps a little elaborate but seriously there couldn’t be anything better than the beach. It’s my love.
M: Where do you originally hail from? How do you think that has aided in shaping who you are and how you live your life?
Madyson: I was born in Clearwater, Florida and have lived in Florida my whole life. I love the warm weather and could spend all day every day outside if I had the chance. I’ve never lived in a big city and honestly never want to. I love quiet places and have always dreamt of adopting a bunch of kids and fixing up an old farmhouse one day.
M: We all have places we go for comfort and solace. What is your place of comfort? What makes it so relaxing for you?
Madyson: Whenever I need a few minutes–or an afternoon to relax, I head down to the lake near my house with a good book and some iced coffee. Sitting by the water on a beautiful day with no distractions, enjoying nature, that always recharges me. I’m definitely an introvert, and some days all I need is some quiet and time away from others to refocus my heart.
M: What do you do to keep yourself healthy?
Madyson: I’m a bit of an exercise freak but it hasn’t always been that way. I remember when I first started working out a few years ago. I’d quit and go cry. Man, it was torture. But I pushed through it and now I’m addicted. Never give up!! I love taking high intensity or pure barre classes at my gym or going for a trail run outside. If you’re looking for some motivation, start with something FUN! Something you can enjoy. You might hate it at first but I promise you’ll come to love it. And you’ll feel so good about yourself too.
I try to eat as balanced a diet as I can, but I do love me some donuts. And if someone says “chocolate,” you can bet it’s in my mouth.
M: You have created some gorgeous Instagram content. What inspires your photography? What brings those posts to life for you?
Madyson: You’re the sweetest! Instagram is my favorite obsession. I draw inspiration from neutrals, simplicity, and nature. I’m a minimalist, so for me, less is more. I love to share projects I’m working on or reflections from my quiet time. I also LOVE the community and relationships you are able to form through the gram, it’s a gem. When I take a picture that I think is rad and matches my feed, you’d think I won the lottery. It puts me in a good mood all day. (laughs)
M: We know that a lot of artists choose their Instagram photos very carefully, so as to bring a specific feel to their account. Do you have a strategy to your Instagram posts, or are they more spur of the moment?
Madyson: My Instagram account is a mix of both planning and spontaneity. Instagram for me is a creative outlet. My page is a form of art that I try to curate based off of things that inspire me. I would say two things about how I approach Instagram:
Creativity takes discipline. It is work! You have to learn to see things from different perspectives and find what inspires you. You have to work to develop creativity. When you find something that inspires you, you have to learn to look at it from different angles and perspectives. If something inspires me spur-of-the-moment, you can bet I’ll take a picture and share it! However, I try to have some content built up for the days when I’m in a creative rut or don’t have anything to post. I also try to post in the afternoons/evenings when more people are active.
Purpose : have a purpose behind your work! When people catch on to the “why” behind the “who” they’re going to feel an immediate connection to you. What I love about instagram is that you can connect so easily with other people! Take advantage of it, perhaps you’re impacting others in ways you’ll never even know.
M: That is the most inspired take on Instagram we have ever heard. Kudos! So clearly you love iced coffee. What’s your favorite flavor?
Madyson: Hands down vanilla! Although I’ve gotten so hooked on it I haven’t really tried anything else. I may need to broaden my coffee horizons 😉
Madyson: My favorite coffee spot is a Starbucks that’s about 10 minutes away from my house. I go there to study and blog all the time. If you can’t find me, I’m probably at Starbucks. But I’m not picky when it comes to where I get my coffee. If it’s brewing, I’m buying. You never have to convince me to drink coffee.
M: Fair enough. What inspires you?
Madyson: I love simplicity. I love being able to find beauty in the ordinary. Pinterest has been one of the greatest tools for me to find inspiration, whether it’s quotes that challenge me or photos that cause me to see things from a different perspective. But nothing beats a sunny day when there is so much natural light and you just want to start taking pictures of everything! I love those days.
M: Your blog reads like poetry. What made you choose to begin that journey?
Madyson: Ahh THANK YOU! For a while I was looking for an outlet to organize the thoughts in my head. Blogging became a way for me to record my feelings and also speak truth into the lives of others. I want others to know that they are not alone in the challenges they’re facing! It has become a way for me to share my faith in Jesus, my struggles, and also a personal type of journal where I can look back and remember the different seasons of life I’ve walked through. When one person tells me they were encouraged or inspired by a post, it brings me so much joy and satisfaction to know that I have inspired one other person, even in the smallest way.
M: In the soundtrack to your life, which songs play on repeat?
Madyson: Gah I’m glad you asked! I have music playing non-stop.
M: What is the best video you’ve ever seen? (Music, YouTube, Movie, TV, whatever!) Why?
Madyson: THIS. Wow. I love this video so much. It’s my favorite. What a beautiful picture of what it really means to love someone.
M: Where do you see yourself in five years?
Madyson: I’m only a senior in high school so I’m ready for a whole lot of change within the next five years! I’m planning to get a degree in Business Marketing from Florida State University and would LOVE to study abroad in London for a semester and spend time traveling. If I’m thinking practical, in five years I’d probably be working as a marketing/social media coordinator. Dreaming big though, I’d love to work as a travel blogger and build my own business.
M: London is THE BEST place to study abroad, take it from us. That will be so much fun! What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten or your favorite quote?
Madyson: “Don’t apologize for who you are.” My greatest weakness is doubting my worth, my value, and my individuality. I compare myself to others and feel like I constantly come up short. But we were all created with a unique value and purpose! You are not a mistake and should never apologize for who you are! Find what inspires you and let it ignite your passion for life.
M: Is there anything else you’d like to add? Go wild!
Madyson: I love, love collaborating with other artists and connecting! Please email me firstname.lastname@example.org to share ideas, collab, or chat!
