A lot of our feature pieces start off by scrolling around Instagram to find the most noteworthy feeds, makers, and thinkers. This love story starts the same way. One day, we were scrolling through Instagram at work **cough cough** and we found this insane account @MyAssthetics. This guy is incredible. He travels all around the world, and takes these awesome photos of landscapes and cities and towns… with his naked ass in front of them.
We couldn’t find much info on the man, but we reached out via direct message anyway. We figured it couldn’t hurt. Within minutes, we had an email address and an interested party. Between his travels and work as an entrepreneur, he was ready to take part in an email interview with us! The fun part about this one is that he can preserve his anonymity and keep us all guessing.
So, without further ado, I give you the most interesting (naked) man in the world!
MOSHERY: If you could introduce yourself to our readers in any way, how would you do so?
@MyAssthetics: Some of my favorite shots are the ones where it takes you a while to realize I am even there. I find it fascinating the way that someone’s entire opinion and approach to the pictures changes when they realize there is a little naked guy in there, as opposed to just a beautiful setting. That said, I think if my viewers were sitting in an audience like at one of those Apple unveilings, I would start with a huge projection of one of my images, then very slowly zoom and focus towards the spot where I am hiding in the picture so that the audience gradually finds me in it. I would love to see how that gradual reaction unfolds. As an example, here is a picture from Florence where you’d never know I am there but I am standing on one of the balconies (see full version and zoomed part of same pic).
M: Where do you originally hail from? How do you think that has aided in shaping who you are and how you live your life?
@MyAssthetics: I’m sure you mean geographically but I’m going to keep that a secret for now and answer in a different way. I hail from a family of artists, and from that I have grappled with questions of what is art and what about visual art actually engages people and captivates their interest. That has definitely helped shape my approach to this series of pictures. My family is also very curious and loves to explore which is certainly where I got the travel bug from. These pictures really wouldn’t be that interesting if they didn’t have incredible landscapes behind me to make the viewer struggle with whether they should be looking at the silly naked guy or the beautiful picture.
M: We will take that answer gladly! When did you decide to bare it all for the first time?
@MyAssthetics: Common misconception, I’m actually not a nudist or any kind of exhibitionist/deviant or anything. The first ass picture came when I was in South Africa swimming (clothed) in a remote lake with a few friends, and when I was changing back my friend told me to strike a pose because he thought my pale white ass was a funny contrast to the rich sunset behind me. I did and it ended up being a damn good (albeit funny) picture that got a great reaction from people. A year or so later I took another one as a joke to send to them, then another, and from there it became a thing.
M: That’s awesome. How did this Instagram account come about?
MyAssthetics: The Instagram started once I had gotten 10 or so of the pictures just as a way for my friends to enjoy them. People would start asking me when they saw me if I’d taken any new ones, and I’d start meeting friends of friends that had heard about the guy with the naked pictures. An Instagram was the next logical step to share them with everyone.
M: Who is the incredibly brave photographer behind all of your fun photos?
@MyAssthetics: It varies, but there have certainly been a few heroes among them. My most prolific photographer is my friend Chip who I have done a lot of my travels with, but my girlfriend, brother, and other friends have taken a lot of them too. I also take a decent number of them myself with a tripod or a GoPro. I’m sure your readers would also enjoy hearing that my Dad actually took one of my favorite ones and I have had at least one stranger take on for me.
M: What trust you have in these people, and how awesome are they for doing it! Where is/was your favorite place to be naked?
@MyAssthetics: I’m really not naked all that much and usually just strip down quick for the picture and then get dressed again, but I have been known to keep the clothes off on a nice secluded beach from time to time.
M: What’s your day job?
@MyAssthetics: I am a serial entrepreneur and at the moment I’m involved in 2 real estate business and a personal home services business.
M: It looks like you live an insane life of adventure. What has been your favorite place to travel to?
@MyAssthetics: This is always a question that is very hard to answer because I love so many places I have for such different reasons. For example: Driving across Western Mongolia was really unbelievable because it is just so vast and untouched, literally one of the least densely populated areas in the entire world. The capital of Turkmenistan is a city called Ashgabat which is just one of the stranger places I have ever been in so many ways so I found that really fascinating. The sheer density of Tokyo was unlike anything I had ever seen and their food is out of this world.
Since I can’t help you with any one place to go I guess I will just say that my philosophy when I travel is to never overplan and go with the flow. You never know what aspect of a place is going to grab you and really feel unique until you are there in the thick of it so setting yourself up to do what you want not what you planned is a big part of my travel philosophy.
M: That’s great advice. What is your favorite outfit? (You know… when you’re wearing clothes.)
@MyAssthetics: My squirrel costume obviously.
M: How did we NOT see that one coming? What do you think is underappreciated in the world? Rant about it!
@MyAssthetics: This will sound funny coming from someone that is being interviewed about their pictures but I honestly think that the most underappreciated part of traveling the world is just enjoying it. People focus too much on seeing everything and getting good pictures of everything and they don’t just let the experience guide them through their trip. I stop for pictures like the rest of them and I love having them to look back on, but it’s what you do between the pictures that really makes the trip and I think sometimes people forget that.
M: Very true. Top songs you’re listening to right now. GO!
@MyAssthetic: Anything by St Lucia is pure listening gold. I also saw this guy Oscar And the Wolf in concert recently and he is such an amazing live performer that I went to like 4 of his shows in a weekend.
M: We will have to check him out! What makes you laugh?
@MyAssthetics: My friends mostly. I am a very silly person though so I am laughing a pretty big chunk of the time.
@MyAssthetics: I’m mostly just jealous because I’ve (in my opinion flawlessly) recreated some of his wife’s naked pictures and not gotten a whiff of her attention. I also used to tag my ass as her in every one of my pictures but now I’ve given up and tag @jenselter in them instead. As for Kanye, he can be an idiot but he is an unbelievable entertainer and is great at what he does.
M: Very unique take. Who is your ultimate role model? Substantiate your claim.
@MyAssthetics: @FosterHunting? The guy just knows how to live and enjoy himself and he has an unbelievable eye for pictures. I’ve never met him but have a mutual friend so I’ll make it happen one day.
M: Dream big! Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
@MyAssthetics: Hopefully on some bizarre road trip in a crappy old vehicle through some beautiful/godforsaken land.
Rapid fire questions (from my male coworkers):
M: Do you ever get ass burns?
@MyAssthetics: I’m too speedy for that.
M: Do you wear a sock on the front, or do you just let it free?
@MyAssthetics: Free as a bird.
M: Do you shave it to keep it smooth? (It looks fairly smooth from the photos.)
@MyAssthetics: Haha I guess I have been blessed with a hair-free ass but no I don’t shave it.
M: Have you gotten in trouble for public exposure?
@MyAssthetics: I am very sneaky so no arrests yet. A few slightly awkward run-ins but all in all doing pretty good.
M: Would you ride the bus naked?
@MyAssthetics: I have always wanted a picture involving one of those red London double-decker busses so for the right picture why not.
M: Do you eat naked? (Is that weird?)
@MyAssthetics: I actually did have a naked dinner with a group of friends once which was pretty silly.
M: Do you get stuff stuck in your crack?
@MyAssthetics: Clean as a whistle.
And there it is, folks! The world’s most mysterious (and naked) man has just spoke some incredible truth. Now hop on over and follow him! (We promise it’s worth it.)
