It’s finally happening – the DVD/Blu-Ray gods are finally bestowing the world with a COMPLETE boxed set of all the Lord of the Rings movies. I’m talking all six LotR and Hobbit movies – The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, The Return of the King, An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug, and The Battle of the Five Armies – plus gobs more.
Amazon released all the details about this Limited Collector’s Edition – it features 30 discs, full of beautiful extended content and bonus materials. These extra features even include all the ones released with previous versions of both the theatrical and extended versions of the films.
Each movie comes in its own (fake-)leather-wrapped book case, and they all sit on a wooden shelf “crafted from solid wood with a design selected by Peter Jackson.” The set also comes with several other goodies, including a re-creation of the Red Book of Westmarch (the book written by Bilbo, Frodo, and Sam before/during/after the conclusion of the Lord of the Rings) that contains original concept art for the movies.
All I can say is . . . I want it. I want it all. I can’t help it; the nerd in me would do anything for this stuff.
Currently there are no price listings for this soon-to-be hot item, but i09.gizmodo.com said it initally had an $800 pricetag. Supposedly it has an October release, but that’s not quite confirmed yet.
In the meantime, enjoy the only three reviews of this item so far. I’m glad to see some people still have a sense of humor.
How much would YOU spend for this boxed set to rule them all? Let us know @theMoshery!
